The 20th Gurye National Gayageum Competition Held
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Miseok] Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 20th that the 20th Gurye National Gayageum Competition, hosted by the Gayageum Byeongchang Preservation Society (Chairperson Kang Jeongsuk), will be held for two days from the 18th to the 19th of next month at the Seomjin Art Hall in Gurye-gun.
The National Gayageum Competition will be held in a total of 14 categories including Gayageum Sanjo, Byeongchang, and creative performances across nationwide elementary, middle, and high school divisions, rookie division, university division, and general division.
One grand prize winner in each category will be awarded, along with gold, silver, and bronze prizes. The highest honor, the grand prize winner in the general division, will receive the Presidential Award, a prize money of 10 million KRW, and as a special prize, a Sanjo Gayageum crafted by human cultural asset Go Heung-gon of the Korean Traditional Instrument Research Institute.
A Gurye-gun official stated, "Gurye is the hometown of sound that has produced numerous masters and singers, including the great master of Gayageum Sanjo, Seo Gongcheol. Through the Gurye National Gayageum Competition, we will discover and nurture talented individuals to inherit our traditional arts and further expand its base."
Meanwhile, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Gurye National Gayageum Competition, a congratulatory performance featuring past winners and local artists will be held at 7 p.m. on the 17th of next month at the Seomjin Art Hall, contributing to the cultural enjoyment of local residents and the revitalization of regional culture.
Applications for participation in this competition can be submitted via email to the Gayageum Byeongchang Preservation Society by the 6th of next month, and the participation guidelines can be checked on the websites of Gurye-gun or the Gayageum Byeongchang Preservation Society.
