Seoul City to Fully Close 'Seonyu Overpass' Toward Yanghwa Bridge from the 19th... Completion by November
Detour on Surrounding Roads, Request for Reduced Speed, Safe Driving, and Active Cooperation with Traffic Guidance in Construction Zones
Road System Unified into At-Grade Intersections, Expectation for Urban Landscape Restoration, Resolution of Regional Disconnection, and Revitalization of Local Economy
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 17th that the demolition of Seonyu Overpass in the Yeouido direction has been completed on the 18th, and starting from the 19th, the entire Seonyu Overpass will be closed to traffic for the demolition of the Seonyu Overpass in the Yanghwa Bridge direction. All demolition work on the Seonyu Overpass will be completed by November.
The Seonyu Overpass in the Yeouido direction (Mokdong → Yeouido) began demolition in December last year and was completed in about six months, with the at-grade intersection opening on the 19th. Citizens using the Seonyu Overpass in the Yanghwa Bridge direction can turn left at lanes 1 and 2 of the intersection at the entrance of the Gyeongin Expressway, where the at-grade intersection has been created.
Seoul City expects traffic congestion during the construction period and asks that vehicles passing through this section detour via surrounding roads despite some inconvenience, and drivers who must use the work zone cooperate actively by reducing speed, driving safely, and following the traffic guidance of control personnel.
Vehicles traveling from Sinwol IC to the Gangbuk direction can detour by ▲using Gukhoe-daero to Yangpyeong-ro in front of Ewha Mokdong Hospital, ▲using Omok-ro from either Hwagok Overpass Intersection or Hongik Hospital Intersection to detour toward Dangsan Station, or ▲using the Sinwol-Yeoui Underpass from Sinwol IC to detour toward Mapo Bridge. Additionally, vehicles traveling from Gangbuk to Gangseo direction can detour by moving toward Dangsan Station via Nodeul-ro from Yanghwa Bridge and then using Yangpyeong-ro to detour toward Mokdong.
The ‘Seonyu Overpass’ has blocked the area between Yangpyeong-dong 3-ga and Dangsan-dong 3 and 4-ga, causing disconnection between regions and deteriorating the urban landscape, which has led residents around Yeongdeungpo to continuously demand its demolition as a long-standing project. With the demolition of the ‘Seonyu Overpass’ and the unification of the road system into an at-grade intersection, the urban scenery previously blocked by the overpass will be restored, regional disconnection will be resolved, and the local economy is expected to be revitalized.
