Ministry of Culture Holds Public Hearing on 'Artist Rights Protection Act'... "Legislation Process to be Completed in September"

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 12th that it plans to complete the procedures for enacting the enforcement decree and enforcement rules by September after holding a public hearing with the Korea Artist Welfare Foundation to gather various opinions. In addition, budget allocation and the formation of a dedicated organization will also be pursued.
The "Artist Rights Protection Act" was enacted last August to enable artists to carry out fair and free creative activities in a gender-equal environment. With its enforcement scheduled for September 25, there is a need for the prompt establishment of the enforcement decree and enforcement rules.
To collect opinions from the cultural and artistic fields, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold the second public hearing following the first one on the 21st of last month.
In the first part, Yeodongbin, a manager of the Arts Policy Division at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will explain the contents of the "Artist Rights Protection Act" and the current status of the enforcement decree and enforcement rules. Song Sigyeong, head of the Arts Creation Headquarters at the Korea Arts Council, will present necessary supplementary matters while enacting the enforcement decree and enforcement rules.
In the second part, opinions from stakeholders in the cultural and artistic fields will be heard, followed by a Q&A session. Yoon Seongcheon, Arts Policy Officer at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will directly answer inquiries regarding the "Artist Rights Protection Act" and the enactment of the enforcement decree and enforcement rules.

The public hearing will be held on the 24th at 2 p.m. on the 5th floor of the Korea Disabled Culture and Arts Center. Considering the COVID-19 situation, attendance is limited to 40 people. Applications for attendance are open from the 12th to the 17th. The public hearing will be broadcast live on the Korea Artist Welfare Foundation's YouTube channel.
