Former Minister Joguk's Message Delivered via Video
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] "To those in our country who identify as 'conservative'?those who voted for President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol?I hope you watch 'Geudaega Joguk' (You Are Joguk) a lot. Through this, I wish the truth of that time to be fully restored."
Former Minister Cho Kuk made these remarks in a video revealed at the press screening of the film 'Geudaega Joguk' (Director Lee Seung-jun) held on the afternoon of the 10th at CGV Yongsan in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
In a special video greeting, former Minister Cho said, "Even now, many people are divided over the 2019 Cho Kuk incident. I understand that people are fighting with different opinions. Progressives argue among themselves, conservatives do the same. I heard that they debate fiercely, each insisting their own view is correct and that only the truth they know is right. I also heard that friendships changed afterward."
He continued, "What I hope for is to inform that there were different testimonies regarding the incident at that time," adding, "I hope the truth hidden behind the legal truths confirmed through investigations and trials at that time, the distorted truths, will be restored. Perhaps the complete truth will be formed within that. I earnestly wish for that truth to be revealed."
'Geudaega Joguk' covers the events that took place over 67 days from August 9, 2019, when Cho Kuk was nominated as Minister of Justice, until his resignation on October 14. Director Lee Seung-jun, who won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short for the Sewol Ferry disaster documentary 'Memories of Absence,' directed the film.
