LG Display Showcases Future of OLED Technology Innovation at 'SID 2022'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] LG Display will unveil a range of advanced OLED new technologies at the ‘SID (Society for Information Display) 2022’ exhibition held in San Jose, USA, starting on the 10th local time. SID is the world's largest display-related event where global display companies and researchers gather to showcase new technologies and products and present research papers.
Under the theme ‘A New Future Opened by OLED,’ LG Display plans to captivate visitors with OLED innovations including the 97-inch extra-large OLED.EX, bendable and foldable OLEDs that allow the screen to be freely folded and bent, large OLEDs with built-in touch, and the world's largest automotive P (plastic)-OLED.
At the entrance of the exhibition hall, the largest existing OLED TV panel, the ‘97-inch OLED.EX,’ welcomes visitors. The 97-inch OLED.EX, unveiled to the public for the first time, offers an overwhelming visual experience with its extra-large size and ultra-high-definition technology.
OLED.EX applies ‘EX Technology,’ which consists of ‘deuterium technology’ and a ‘personalization algorithm’ to the organic light-emitting elements, increasing screen brightness (luminance) by 30% and expressing natural colors more precisely. It is a next-generation TV panel that achieves perfect black in any environment.
The ‘42-inch bendable OLED gaming display,’ which maximizes the unique advantage of OLED being as thin as paper, can be freely bent and unfolded up to a maximum of 1000R (curvature radius of 1,000 mm). It can be used as a flat screen when watching TV and as a curved screen when gaming, maximizing immersion.
New OLED technologies presenting the future of displays will also be introduced. The ‘8-inch 360-degree foldable OLED,’ unveiled for the first time this time, realizes bi-directional folding, which is technically more difficult than unidirectional folding, allowing users to fold it both forward and backward as desired. It applies a module structure that guarantees durability even after folding and unfolding more than 200,000 times and a special folding structure that minimizes wrinkles in the folding area.
The world’s largest ‘17-inch foldable OLED for laptops’ offers a new customer experience that breaks down boundaries between devices, allowing users to use it as a tablet, laptop, or portable monitor.
Various OLED solutions for creating new markets will also be exhibited. The ‘34-inch curved P-OLED for vehicles,’ the largest single panel in the world, applies ergonomic design with a maximum curvature of 800R (curvature radius of 800 mm), enabling drivers to see the instrument panel, navigation, and more at a glance, maximizing driving convenience.
