Myongji Hospital Recruits Rehabilitation Medicine Expert Professor Lee Kang-woo, 'Personal Physician of Lee Kun-hee'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Myongji Hospital announced on the 6th that it has recruited Professor Lee Kang-woo, a rehabilitation medicine authority and renowned expert in musculoskeletal pain treatment, as a faculty member in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Professor Lee graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1974, a time when awareness of rehabilitation medicine was low in Korea. He obtained his specialist qualification in rehabilitation medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, USA, and served as a professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine there for 10 years.
Afterwards, he returned to Korea in 1994 as a founding member of Samsung Seoul Hospital. Based on his experience in the US, he served as head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and director of the International Clinic. He also held positions such as chair professor and emeritus professor at Sungkyunkwan University College of Medicine, adjunct professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine, director of the International Health Promotion Center at Incheon Gil Hospital, and director of Daegu Industrial Accident Hospital.
Notably, while working at Samsung Seoul Hospital, Professor Lee was the personal physician to the late Lee Kun-hee, chairman of Samsung Group. He also appeared on EBS’s program "Myung-ui" (The Expert), where he introduced the recovery of neurological and musculoskeletal joint functions through rehabilitation therapy, gaining significant attention.
Professor Lee is an authority in alleviating musculoskeletal pain, including frozen shoulder, through rehabilitation therapy without surgery. He has treated approximately 3,000 patients annually and published about 300 papers, including SCI-level articles, as well as authored various related books.
Domestically, he has contributed as president of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine, director of the Korean Medical Association, president of the Korean Musculoskeletal Society, director of the Stroke Society, and director of the Korean Pain Society. Internationally, he has served as secretary-general of the World Federation of Rehabilitation Medicine, full member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and full member of the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, contributing to the advancement of rehabilitation medicine both in Korea and abroad.

Professor Lee stated, “Based on the clinical and research experience accumulated through various domestic and international activities over a long period, I will contribute to the development of rehabilitation medicine at Myongji Hospital. In particular, I will focus on treating patients suffering from musculoskeletal and chronic pain.”
