A Man in His 50s Attempts Self-Immolation Over Wage Arrears at a Construction Site in Gangnam-gu
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A man in his 50s attempted self-immolation over unpaid wages at a construction site in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and was transported to a hospital.
On the 3rd, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul responded to a report around 11:30 a.m. that a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, was burning clothes and trash with a torch at a construction site in Nonhyeon-dong.
When the police arrived, Mr. A poured gasoline on himself, and his body caught fire, resulting in first- and second-degree burns over his entire body. Police officers at the scene used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames on Mr. A’s body, and it was confirmed that he was conscious when transported to the hospital.
