Police Agency to Conduct Intensive Enforcement on Two-Wheeler Traffic Violations for One Week Starting Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The National Police Agency announced on the 1st that it will conduct a week-long intensive crackdown on two-wheeled vehicle traffic violations starting from the 2nd, in cooperation with the autonomous police committees of each city and province.
This crackdown will focus on locations where two-wheeled vehicle traffic accidents frequently occur regionally. Enforcement will also take place at major tourist spots and recreational areas, especially on Children's Day and Parents' Day weekends, when family travel is expected to increase, as well as at locations with active two-wheeled vehicle clubs along main travel routes. In addition to violations such as running red lights and crossing the center line, offenses like sidewalk intrusion and noise pollution will also be key targets of the crackdown.
Under the enforcement, undercover patrol cars and police motorcycles operated by each city and provincial police agency will support police station crackdowns. To prepare for situations where on-site enforcement is difficult, video enforcement will be conducted simultaneously by collecting evidence of traffic violations using camcorders and identifying and punishing drivers afterward. When violations are detected on-site, a comprehensive inspection of various traffic safety-related matters such as insurance subscription status, license plate damage, and illegal modifications will be carried out.

The police explained that this proactive measure was taken in anticipation of a higher risk of fatal two-wheeled vehicle accidents this month. In fact, as of April 24th last month, the number of fatalities from two-wheeled vehicle accidents was 125, showing a 19% increase compared to the previous year (105). The National Police Agency stated, "May is the period with the highest number of fatalities from two-wheeled vehicle accidents," and urged drivers to exercise special caution and drive safely.
