Former Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok was chosen as the People Power Party candidate for Incheon mayor, former Nam-gu District Chief Kim Doo-gyeom for Ulsan mayor, and Assemblyman Park Wan-soo for Gyeongsangnam-do governor.
On the 22nd, the People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee held a meeting at the National Assembly to finalize the results of the primaries for the metropolitan government heads of Incheon, Ulsan, Gyeonggi Province, and Gyeongsangnam-do.
In the highly anticipated Gyeonggi Province gubernatorial primary, Assemblywoman Kim Eun-hye caused an upset by defeating former Assemblyman Yoo Seung-min. Despite the deduction applied for being an incumbent candidate, Kim secured 52.7% of the support, surpassing Yoo Seung-min's 44.6%.
Former Assemblyman Yoo led in name recognition and popularity, but he could not overcome Kim, a first-term lawmaker backed by the support of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol. Kim, who was President-elect Yoon's spokesperson, resigned midway to run for governor of Gyeonggi Province. After losing in the presidential primary, Yoo sought a political path through the gubernatorial race but suffered a setback with his defeat in the Gyeonggi Province primary.
For the Incheon mayoral candidacy, former Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok received 50.3% of the votes, defeating former Mayor Ahn Sang-soo (27.0%) and former Assemblyman Lee Hak-jae (22.7%). In Ulsan, former Nam-gu District Chief Kim Doo-gyeom won with 38.1%, beating Assemblyman Seo Beom-su (27.2%) and former Assemblyman Jung Gap-yoon (33.3%).
