"Strengthening Counterfeit Inspection" Musinsa Signs Intellectual Property Protection Agreement with TIPA
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Musinsa announced on the 13th that it has signed an agreement with the Trade-related Intellectual Property Protection Association (TIPA) to strengthen the inspection process for overseas brands.
Starting with this agreement, Musinsa will only sell products that have passed TIPA's intellectual property infringement inspection among imported goods and will issue digital inspection certificates. The intellectual property infringement inspection is a procedure in which the rights holder of the trademark conducts an appraisal before the domestic distributor distributes imported or purchased goods to verify whether they are counterfeit. Musinsa expects the inspections to begin as early as this month, with approximately 60,000 cases inspected annually.
Musinsa has recently taken several measures to restore trust following a 'counterfeit' controversy. Previously, KREAM, a resale service company affiliated with Naver, judged a Fear of God Essentials T-shirt sold on Musinsa to be counterfeit.
Musinsa protested this and announced legal action against KREAM, but later KREAM revealed that the product was judged counterfeit by the Fear of God headquarters. Subsequently, Musinsa stopped selling Fear of God Essentials products and began compensation efforts.
