Jeju Coast Guard Provides Free Inspection Service for Powered Water Leisure Vehicles
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief Park Sangwook) announced on the 5th that it will conduct a free inspection service for powered water leisure equipment in collaboration with two water leisure equipment repair companies.
This inspection service was conducted to prevent safety accidents caused by simple equipment failures as the peak season for water leisure activities using powered water leisure equipment arrives in the summer.
Jeju Maritime Police will promote the service by posting banners at major departure and arrival ports for powered water leisure equipment for two weeks until the 19th and will operate a reservation system for those wishing to receive the free inspection service.
On the 20th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a free inspection of powered water leisure equipment will be conducted at Hwabuk Port in Jeju City in collaboration with two leisure equipment repair companies (Safe Marine and Jeongwoo Marine).
Personal powered water leisure equipment is mainly used during the peak season (April to October). In spring, some operators enjoy leisure activities at sea without inspecting the equipment that was unused during winter, sometimes resulting in drifting and requiring rescue.
In case of bad weather, there is a risk of secondary accidents such as collisions or capsizing with other vessels navigating, so every year Jeju Maritime Police conducts free inspections to prevent safety accidents.
A Jeju Maritime Police official said, “The free inspection service will be a good opportunity to learn about any concerns you usually have or more systematic inspection methods and procedures.”
He added, “It is the first step in accident prevention for water leisure participants to take an interest themselves and thoroughly conduct safety inspections, so we hope they always maintain awareness of safety and engage in leisure activities responsibly.”
