Heo Seok, Mayor of Suncheon, Shares Warm Conversation Walk with Residents of Ocheon District
Discussion on Revitalization Plans for Ocheon District Linked to the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 30th that it held a warm conversation session with about 50 residents at the square in front of Gold Class Apartments in Ocheon-dong under the theme of “2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo Linked Ocheon District Revitalization Plan.”
The Ocheon Residential District, created in 2015 in the areas of Ocheon-dong, Pungdeok-dong, and Namjeong-dong, is home to 4,038 households and 10,827 residents, and is an excellent residential area serving as a key hub behind the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo site.
In preparation for the 2023 Garden Expo, a Korean Peninsula crater garden is being developed as a landmark within the detention pond park, and projects such as nighttime landscape creation along Dongcheon Stream, living forest creation, urban forest landscape improvement within green belts, and a community participation project for making beautiful gardens are actively underway.
On this day, Mayor Heo Seok and residents exchanged various opinions on ▲creating a pilot street by placing flower pots on apartment verandas and in front of stores ▲installing family-friendly sports spaces, eco-friendly loess trails, and convenience facilities in the detention pond park along Dongcheon Stream ▲introducing cultural content to revitalize the night market, all aimed at the successful hosting of the 2023 Garden Expo and spreading garden culture.
In particular, resident A, who participated in the warm conversation, requested the city’s active involvement regarding the timing and price of the sale of rental apartments in the Ocheon District, while another participant, B, proposed attracting cultural facilities that residents could use on the 12,604㎡ school site located between Gold Class and Jin Ari Chae Apartments.
In response, Mayor Heo Seok stated that the city is promoting the construction of parks, a community sports center, and a public library by utilizing the detention pond and drainage pump station currently in the Ocheon District, and is creating eco-friendly trails that harmonize with the surrounding landscape and are easy to walk on, along with the Korean Peninsula crater garden in preparation for the 2023 Garden Expo.
He also pledged to do his best to convey and mediate residents’ complaints regarding the sale conversion process of rental apartments to the rental business operators, and to review the school site with priority given to residents’ needs.
Additionally, attending residents suggested ▲increasing bus routes passing through the Ocheon District ▲improving accessibility from Gangbyeon-ro to Dongcheon ▲systematic management of parks in the Ocheon District.
In his closing remarks at the warm conversation, Mayor Heo Seok said, “We will strive to protect the property rights of Ocheon District residents by promoting the undergrounding project of the Gyeongjeon Line and efforts for sale conversion at appropriate prices for rental apartments,” adding, “Before the development of Pungdeokteul and Yeonhyangteul, we expect that the Ocheon District will be the first to directly benefit from development profits as a hinterland complex of the 2023 Garden Expo and take a step forward.”
