National Cancer Center-Hana One-Goyang City, Agreement Signed for Medical Support for North Korean Defectors
[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] The National Cancer Center announced on the 29th that it signed a memorandum of understanding for mutual cooperation with the Ministry of Unification's Hana Center and Goyang City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) on the 28th at the Goyang City Hall conference room.
This agreement was made to explore organic cooperation measures among the National Cancer Center, the Ministry of Unification's Hana Center, and Goyang City to provide medical support for North Korean defectors and to promote inter-Korean health and medical cooperation.
According to the agreement, each institution promised to cooperate comprehensively in health and medical cooperation projects, including ▲ medical support and health promotion for North Korean defectors ▲ health behavior survey research and health data construction for North Korean defectors ▲ promotion of inter-Korean health and medical cooperation, research for unification, publication of materials, and academic events ▲ enhancing understanding and improving awareness of North Korean defectors.

Seo Hong-gwan, Director of the National Cancer Center, said, “Through this agreement, it is meaningful that we will increase medical field accessibility for North Korean defectors and provide support from prevention to treatment through customized medical support,” adding, “I hope this will become a valuable seed in helping North Korean defectors settle healthily in local communities and in building a healthy community on the Korean Peninsula.”
