CU Surpasses 5 Million Sales of Vegetarian Ready Meals... "Captivated the 2030 Generation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] CU announced on the 28th that its vegetarian convenience food series has surpassed 5 million units in cumulative sales just about three years after its launch.
CU introduced its vegetarian convenience food series at the end of 2019, releasing approximately 30 products including lunch boxes, sandwiches, triangular kimbap, hamburgers, and spaghetti.
The best-selling product is the fourth installment of the vegetarian series, the Vegetarian Tuna Mayo Kimbap. This product uses plant-based tuna and is made entirely from 100% plant-based ingredients. The second best-selling item is the Vegetarian Tuna Mayo Triangular Kimbap, generously topped with plant-based tuna.
The most commonly used plant-based ingredient is alternative meat, commonly known as soy meat. After cooking, it has little difference in taste and texture compared to regular meat, allowing it to be used in various dishes such as bulgogi, meatballs, and stir-fried gochujang.
On the 15th, CU launched the fifth installment of the vegetarian convenience food series. This time, they introduced jangjorim made with alternative meat, bibimbap with spring vegetables, triangular kimbap, kimbap, vegetarian aglio olio pasta, and soy milk cream pasta.
