China Opposes US Sanctions on North Korea: "Continuing Dialogue is Beneficial, Should Resume Soon"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] The Chinese government has expressed opposition to the United States' sanctions on North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch.
Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a regular briefing on the 25th, "China has consistently maintained that dialogue and negotiation are the only correct ways to resolve the Korean Peninsula issue."
Spokesperson Wang said, "Continuing the trend of dialogue on the Korean Peninsula, safeguarding stability on the Peninsula, and promoting the political resolution process of the Korean Peninsula issue align with the common interests of all countries," adding, "Any actions that could further worsen the current situation are undesirable."
He also said, "China hopes that the parties involved will remain calm and restrained, adhere to the broad direction of political resolution, show goodwill to each other, and resume dialogue as soon as possible," adding, "China will continue to play a constructive role in realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and promoting the political resolution of the Korean Peninsula issue."
When asked whether the planned phone call between President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol and Chinese President Xi Jinping would discuss North Korea's ICBM launch, Wang only replied, "We will announce relevant information at an appropriate time."
