On the afternoon of the 24th, the Political, Judicial, and Administrative Subcommittee of the Transition Committee received a briefing from National Police Agency officials, including Deputy Commissioner Jin Gyo-hoon, at the Transition Committee office in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
On this day, the police first reported on the general status, policies implemented so far, and their evaluations.
They then announced major plans under three themes: proactive preventive policing to ensure public safety, realization of fairness and common sense values through the establishment of law and order, and the embodiment of a competent police force leading future policing.
Subsequently, they reported on the implementation plans divided into core and general tasks based on the campaign pledges of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol.
Regarding investigative authority, which has attracted significant attention both domestically and internationally, the police expressed a fundamental position that it is reasonable to maintain the system adjusted by the current administration.
On the other hand, concerning the elevation of the Commissioner of the National Police Agency from vice-ministerial to ministerial level, they conveyed that this should be treated as a priority task considering the size and duties of the police organization.
In addition, plans related to the protection and support of socially vulnerable groups and crime victims were shared, and the police reported additional proposals including the introduction of a multi-grade system in the policy department of the National Police Agency, strengthening research and development functions for scientific policing, and reinforcing the legal and institutional foundation for crime prevention activation.
