[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Lee Minjun, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Naju 1), has announced his candidacy for the mayor of Naju in the nationwide simultaneous local elections to be held on June 1.
On the 23rd, Lee held a press conference and officially declared his candidacy for the Naju mayoral election with the vision of "A New Renaissance Era of Yeongsangang River where Citizens' Lives Improve."
He said, "During the past 20 years as the 7th, 10th, and 11th Jeonnam Provincial Assembly member, I met numerous Naju citizens and deeply understood what kind of Naju they want," adding, "Now, not as an assembly member but as a mayor, I will strive for a better life for citizens tomorrow than today."
His pledges include ▲ developing Energy Valley into a global hub for new energy industries ▲ creating a landmark in Naju through Yeongsangang River water quality improvement and ecosystem restoration projects ▲ realizing a millennium cultural tourism city by restoring and regenerating Naju Eupseong and Najumokgwana ▲ fostering smart agriculture and the 6th industry for the future food sources of Naju farmers ▲ strengthening regional competitiveness through investment in educational infrastructure for nurturing innovative talents.
Lee said, "Lee Minjun is a politician who has delivered results through actions rather than words for 20 years," and added, "I ask for the support of citizens so that I can become a mayor who solves current problems in Naju and leads the prosperity of future Naju, opening the New Renaissance Era of Yeongsangang River together with the citizens."
Meanwhile, Lee majored in Urban and Regional Development Policy at the Graduate School of Policy at Chonnam National University.
He has served as the Deputy Chair of the Policy Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea Central Party, the Head Special Advisor for the Innovation City Energy Valley Promotion under candidate Lee Jae-myung's central election campaign committee, and has been active in the Democratic Party since his youth, including serving as the Senior Vice Chair of the Youth Committee of the Millennium Democratic Party Central Party in the past.
