337,027 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed by 6 PM... Cumulative Total Exceeds 10 Million (Update)

Due to the spread of the Omicron variant, nearly 340,000 COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide by 6 p.m. on the 22nd. The total number of confirmed cases in the country surpassed 10 million that afternoon.
According to health authorities and local governments including Seoul City, from midnight to 6 p.m. on the same day, 337,027 people across 17 cities and provinces nationwide were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is an increase of 71,265 cases compared to the previous day.
As a result, the total cumulative confirmed cases in the country reached 10,233,567. It took 792 days since the first COVID-19 case was reported in the country on January 20, 2020, for the cumulative number to exceed 10 million.

As of 6 p.m., new confirmed cases were 177,762 (52.7%) in the metropolitan area and 159,265 (47.3%) in non-metropolitan areas. By region, the numbers were: Gyeonggi 79,816, Seoul 68,481, Gyeongnam 24,222, Incheon 19,465, Busan 18,255, Daegu 16,734, Gyeongbuk 16,234, Chungnam 15,163, Jeonnam 13,789, Gangwon 12,150, Ulsan 11,062, Gwangju 10,888, Jeonbuk 8,804, Chungbuk 8,555, Daejeon 8,257, Jeju 3,896, and Sejong 1,256.
