Jeongeup-si, All-Out Effort to Address Child Human Rights Violations and Abuse
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is focusing its administrative efforts to respond to human rights violations and abuse against children.
According to the city on the 22nd, the current child population (under 18 years old) in Jeongeup is about 12,860, and the number of child abuse reports last year was 188, an increase of about 36% compared to 2020.
Accordingly, the city established a Child Protection Team last year to respond quickly to child abuse cases and is promoting the publicization of child abuse investigations.
To directly carry out the child abuse investigation work previously performed by the private sector, Jeongeup City has completed preparations for publicization by assigning two dedicated child abuse public officials and two dedicated child protection personnel.
In addition, the city installed an emergency child abuse hotline to establish a 24-hour response system and designated Jeongeup Asan Hospital as a dedicated hospital for child abuse to provide prompt and systematic medical treatment for abused children.
The city also formed an information linkage consultative body with Jeongeup Police Station and Jeongeup Office of Education to build a joint investigation system through collaboration, and quickly established a protection system for abused children by designating child welfare facilities as protection facilities for abused children.
Through these efforts, the city contributes to creating a stable growth environment and improving the rights of children. Last year, out of a total of 188 suspected child abuse reports, 80 cases were confirmed as child abuse and connected to specialized child protection agencies.
A city official said, “We hope that people will actively report to 112 if child abuse is suspected,” and added, “We will continue to focus our capabilities on strengthening the protection system so that children can grow up healthy and happy.”
