[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 22nd that it will hold its first large-scale wine event of the year from the 25th to the 31st, featuring unprecedented discount rates. A total of 10 importers will participate, and the first half of the year’s wine warehouse sale, valued at 12 billion KRW, will offer wines at discounts of up to 87%.
With the increase in home drinking due to COVID-19 and various reasons such as housewarming gifts, more people are seeking wine. Shinsegae Department Store’s wine category sales in January and February this year grew nearly 20% compared to the same period last year. As wine demand increased, champagne, which can be enjoyed without burden, grew by 50%, and premium wines priced over 300,000 KRW also increased by 45% during the same period.
Shinsegae has prepared Grand Cru premium wines produced in France, the birthplace of wine, for this event. Grand Cru is the highest grade of French wine, characterized by using top-quality grapes produced only in certain regions. Representative products include limited quantities of top-tier Ch?teau wines among Grand Cru, such as 'Ch?teau Haut-Brion 11,17' (990,000 KRW) and 'Ch?teau Margaux 17' (1,200,000 KRW).
Premium wines from regions outside France are also abundant. In addition to cult wines from the United States, which are produced in small quantities annually, popular wines representing each country will be sold. Representative products include 'Opus One 18' (690,000 KRW), 'Penfolds Grange' (1,100,000 KRW), and 'Solaia 17' (620,000 KRW).
A special champagne sale will also be held. Champagne is a wine made only in the Champagne region of France, characterized by a more delicate and luxurious taste compared to regular sparkling wines. Representative items include 'Taittinger Reserve Brut,' 'Champagne Drappier Charles de Gaulle Brut,' and 'Bouch? Signature Brut.'
Cost-effective wines that are good to drink when going on outings will also be increased by 30% compared to last year and sold at uniform prices ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 KRW. About 600 types of wines are prepared, from ros? sparkling wines to distinctive natural wines and champagnes. These include 'Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon,' 'Canti Brachetto Pink Edition,' 'Tuinbang Bad Girl,' 'Wabi Sabi Pet Nat,' and 'Andr? Clouet Champagne Brut Grand Reserve.'
