The seven divisions are set to start ministry briefings and work on the blueprint and policy planning for the next government.
At 10 a.m. on the same day, the Transition Committee held a plenary meeting at the main conference room in Tongui-dong, Seoul, chaired by Transition Chairman Ahn Cheol-soo, to review the activity plans for each division. The meeting was attended by Chairman Ahn, Planning Chairman Won Hee-ryong, transition committee members, and the committee’s spokesperson group. Vice Chairman Kwon Young-se and Planning and Coordination Division Secretary Chu Kyung-ho, who entered self-quarantine due to COVID-19 infection, were unable to attend the meeting.
During the meeting, the Secretariat Division led the briefing on the schedule for ministry reports, the overall operation period of the transition committee, reporting formats, and activity plan formats for each division, providing necessary information for their activities. Spokesperson Shin Yong-hyun is scheduled to hold a briefing at 2 p.m. to announce the confirmed meeting schedule and operational plans.
The seven divisions will begin full-scale activities such as ministry briefings based on the plans developed by the Secretariat Division. These briefings are considered the first step to understanding the priorities of the next government’s policies and the outline of organizational restructuring. Through these ministry briefings, the transition committee is expected to evaluate the current government’s key projects and decide whether to continue or discontinue them.
Chairman Ahn has expressed a policy that the seven divisions conduct ministry briefings simultaneously and complete the reports within this week if possible. He plans to accelerate the drawing of the national administration blueprint through weekly plenary meetings on Mondays and three secretariat meetings on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. At the meeting, Chairman Ahn said, “The transition committee is the vanguard of the new government,” urging members to work with a strong sense of mission. He added, “While preparing for the launch of the new government, please also pay attention to current issues and discuss solutions. It is also the responsibility of each division’s transition members to promptly decide what to request cooperation from the current government and what to handle within the transition committee.”
He also emphasized the concept of a ‘one team.’ Chairman Ahn stated, “Although everyone gathered here has the highest expertise in their respective fields, having the best does not necessarily guarantee the best results. Please think not only about your assigned areas but also about the future of the Republic of Korea and whether the solutions are optimal for the success of the new government with a ‘one team’ mindset.” He further asked members to handle matters with five core values in mind: ▲ fairness, rule of law, and restoration of democracy ▲ future growth engines and job foundations ▲ regional balanced development ▲ sustainability of the Republic of Korea ▲ and national unity.
