National Library of Korea to Screen Independent Films Every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The National Library of Korea will hold the first independent film screening event of the year on the 24th at the Digital Library Cultural Small Auditorium.
The National Library of Korea's independent film screening event is a cultural program that screens Korean independent films and, depending on the film, holds a Guest Visit (GV) event with discussions. This program, which has been running since 2020, is operated in collaboration between the Seoul Film Commission and the National Library of Korea to promote Korean independent films. It takes place every second and fourth Thursday of the month at 2 p.m. from March to December, with the end time varying depending on the film's running time and the GV session. The films scheduled for screening can be checked and applied for two weeks prior to the event on the National Library of Korea's website.
The first screening, Street of Movies (directed by Kim Mingeun, released in 2021), is a romance film that deals with situations arising when ex-lovers become colleagues through work. Featuring a naturalistic performance by actress Han Seonhwa, who recently made a strong impression in TVING’s Drunk City Women, and actor Lee Wan, returning to the screen after six years, it is a realistic romance film that can be enjoyed lightly in the coming spring. Applications for this film screening will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from the 10th on the National Library of Korea’s website, and admission is free.

The person in charge of the National Library of Korea’s independent film screening event said, “It is meaningful that the library, as a complex cultural space, can provide various cultural programs through introducing independent films that are usually hard to access, while also contributing to the revitalization of independent films.”
