COVID-19 New Cases Remain in the 300,000s for Two Consecutive Days... 206 Deaths Reported

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Due to the spread of the Omicron variant, the number of new COVID-19 cases exceeded 300,000 on the presidential election day, marking the second consecutive day with new cases in the 300,000 range.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on the 10th, the number of new COVID-19 cases increased by 327,549, bringing the total cumulative cases to 5,539,650. The number of new cases surpassed 300,000 for the second consecutive day following the previous day's record high of 342,438 cases.
The number of critically ill patients remained in the 1,000 range for the third consecutive day. As of midnight, the number of critically ill patients was 1,113, an increase of 26 from the previous day (1,087). By age group, there were 387 patients aged 80 and above, 316 in their 70s, 241 in their 60s, 88 in their 50s, 31 in their 40s, 24 in their 30s, and 17 in their 20s. Additionally, there were 6 patients under 10 years old and 3 in their teens.
The number of deaths increased by 48 from the previous day (158) to 206. The cumulative death toll reached 9,646, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.17%. The daily death toll is the second highest since the COVID-19 outbreak, following June 5th (216 deaths). By age group, those aged 80 and above accounted for the most deaths at 144, followed by 32 in their 70s, 20 in their 60s, and 6 in their 50s. There was also one death each in the 20s, 30s, and 40s age groups, and one pediatric death in the 0-9 age group.
Hospital bed occupancy rates are also rising. The total number of COVID-19 hospital beds is 49,935, with occupancy rates of 61.1% for critically ill beds, 64.3% for semi-critical beds, and 46.5% for moderate severity beds. The operation rate of residential treatment centers is 24.6%.
As of midnight, the number of patients under home treatment was 1,294,673, of which 194,259 were in the intensive management group.

On the previous day, a total of 449,239 tests were conducted at screening clinics. As of midnight, the test positivity rate was 50.6%, meaning half of those tested received positive results.
