A man in his 70s, a YouTuber who assaulted Song Young-gil, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and was caught in the act, is being escorted by police for questioning at Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul on the afternoon of the 7th.

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The prosecution filed an arrest warrant on the 8th for YouTuber Pyo (70), who struck Song Young-gil, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, with a blunt weapon at a campaign site. The pre-arrest detention hearing to decide Pyo's detention will be held on the 9th.
The Seoul Seodaemun Police Station applied charges of special assault and violation of the Public Official Election Act against Pyo and requested an arrest warrant from the prosecution on the same day. The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced that it filed the arrest warrant with the court on the same day. The detention hearing will be held at 3 p.m. the next day at the Seoul Western District Court. The decision on whether to issue the warrant is expected to be made late in the afternoon on the day of the hearing.
Pyo is accused of striking Song’s head multiple times with a blunt weapon around 12:05 p.m. on the 7th in the square in front of Sinchon U-Plex in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, where Song was campaigning. Immediately after hitting Song, Pyo reportedly shouted, “I oppose the South Korea-U.S. military exercises.” It was confirmed that since last month, Pyo had been following Song’s campaign sites and uploading videos to his YouTube channel.
