Gwangju Seo-gu Completes Enrollment of All Residents in 'Resident Safety Insurance'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 7th that all Seo-gu residents have been enrolled in the 'Resident Safety Insurance.'

The district has been operating the Resident Safety Insurance since February to support the livelihood safety of residents affected by various disasters.

'Resident Safety Insurance' is a guarantee system in which the local government subscribes to an insurance company to provide livelihood stability support to Seo-gu residents who suffer damage from accidents or disasters that may occur in daily life.

The insurance enrollment target includes all residents registered in Seo-gu (including registered foreigners and foreign nationals with residence reports) and is automatically enrolled or terminated upon moving in or out without a separate application process.

The coverage includes a total of 10 items, ranging from accident death while using public transportation (such as city buses), death from disasters such as explosions, fires, collapses, and landslides, to accidents during water play, and living accidents such as burn surgery expenses.

The insurance payment procedure requires the affected resident to directly claim to the insurance company (claims can be made within 3 years from the date of the accident). After investigating the accident, the insurance company pays up to 15 million KRW depending on the type of accident.

Meanwhile, the Resident Safety Insurance can be paid in addition to personal accident insurance purchased individually.

A Seo-gu official said, "We expect that through the Resident Safety Insurance, residents will receive minimum livelihood stability and compensation for damages from various safety accidents," and added, "Seo-gu will continuously promote policies in various ways to ensure the safe lives of residents."
