Jinju City announced on the 3rd that it is making every effort to secure agricultural water, including developing bedrock wells and maintaining pumping facilities, to prevent damage to spring crops due to the prolonged winter drought that has continued since last winter.
From December last year to February this year, the average precipitation in Jinju City was 0mm over the past two months, which is 0% compared to the average precipitation of 11mm during the same period in 2021, prompting the city to devise various measures to minimize spring drought damage.
The city is investing a total of 2.981 billion KRW in agricultural water supply projects, including 1.512 billion KRW for agricultural water development and maintenance such as bedrock well development this year, and 1.469 billion KRW for dredging and repairing reservoirs. This budget is more than 100% increased compared to last year's budget of 1.488 billion KRW.
The average storage rate of the 231 reservoirs managed by the city is currently 65%, and the city is accelerating drought countermeasures to ensure a stable supply of agricultural water during the farming season. To prevent drought damage, the Jinju branch of the Korea Rural Community Corporation and local townships are jointly implementing drought countermeasures, including preemptive measures in areas at risk of water shortage, inspection of water supply facilities such as wells and pumps, and water-saving campaigns.
On the 3rd, Jinju City inspected the temporary weir site in Wongo-ri, Sugok-myeon, installed to prevent damage from cold waves in greenhouse facilities during the dry season.
