View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 2nd, the People Power Party stated that they will wait for the Central Election Commission's review results, claiming that Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, falsely explained his conviction for impersonating a prosecutor in his election pamphlet.
Heo Jeong-hwan, the senior deputy spokesperson of the People Power Party, said in a statement that "Candidate Lee explained that he was fined 1.5 million won for 'impersonating a prosecutor' because, as a civic activist, during the process of investigating and reporting the preferential allotment case of Bundang Parkview, a broadcasting PD interviewed the candidate, who was the executive committee chairman of the preferential allotment case countermeasures committee, and asked for the name of the prosecutor in charge and important details of the case, which he provided. After a legal dispute, it was ultimately ruled that he assisted in impersonating a prosecutor."
Heo added, "This is a clear falsehood. Candidate Lee falsely explained that he merely helped the PD during his public interest activities," and pointed out, "The Supreme Court confirmed the conviction, judging that the candidate 'conspired with the broadcasting PD to impersonate a public official prosecutor and exercised his authority.' It clearly stated that it was 'conspiracy,' not just 'assistance' as the candidate claimed."
He continued, "The People Power Party raised objections with clear evidence, and as such testimony was supported, the Central Election Commission is said to hold an emergency temporary meeting this afternoon to review this matter," emphasizing, "How the Election Commission handles this issue tomorrow will be a measure of the efforts to prevent the cunning extension of former standing commissioner Cho Hae-ju by the Election Commission staff and to restore public trust, confirming that the Election Commission is the last bastion of democracy."

Heo concluded, "The candidate's false explanation regarding impersonating a prosecutor is a serious criminal act incomparable to the case during the April 7 Seoul mayoral by-election last year, when the Election Commission acknowledged that candidate Oh Se-hoon's spouse failed to pay about 300,000 won in taxes and posted related notices at polling stations," and urged, "We ask for a strict judgment against the candidate who even falsified election pamphlets to deceive the public."
