Ukraine Requests Emergency Meeting at UN Human Rights Council

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] On the 24th (local time), Ukraine requested an emergency meeting at the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding the humanitarian situation in its territory following the Russian invasion, according to dpa news agency.
In a letter sent to Federico Villegas, Chair of the Human Rights Council, Yevheniia Filipenko, Ukraine's representative to Geneva, explained that the request for the emergency meeting was due to the need to address the "extremely severely deteriorated situation in Ukraine."
In response, the European Union (EU) delegation in Geneva expressed full support on Twitter.
However, the news agency reported that the Human Rights Council can only make recommendations, which is a limitation.

The United Nations Human Rights Council will hold its 49th regular session for five weeks starting on the 28th. On the second day of the session, March 1st, speeches by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are scheduled.
