Ukrainian President: "Russia Trying to Occupy Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant"
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed on the 24th (local time) that Russian forces are attempting to occupy the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in northern Ukraine.
According to CNN and other broadcasts, President Zelensky stated on his Twitter that "Russian occupying forces are trying to seize Chernobyl," adding, "Our military is risking their lives to prevent a repeat of the tragedy of 1986."
The Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs also confirmed Zelensky's warning, stating that Russian troops advanced southward from the Belarusian side in northern Ukraine and approached the area near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, not far from the border.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also warned, "In 1986, the world witnessed the greatest technological disaster at Chernobyl," adding, "If Russia continues the war, a similar event could occur again at Chernobyl in 2022."
