Yanolja "College Students' Bucket List, Hotel Vacation Over Backpacking"
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Recently, university students have shown a preference for hotel vacations over backpacking trips as their bucket list choice.
On the 23rd, accommodation and activity platform Yanolja conducted a survey (multiple responses allowed) to mark the new semester, revealing that 85.7% of respondents chose "travel" as their top university life bucket list item. Among the types of travel they wish to take, "hotel vacation (67.6%)" was the most popular. Backpacking, which had consistently ranked first in previous surveys, was chosen by only 50%. The rise of hotel vacations as a new travel trend and the difficulty of free travel due to the pandemic have reversed the rankings.
Kim Yong-kyung, Brand Director at Yanolja, analyzed, "Recently, university students' bucket lists focus more on 'enjoying' rather than 'achieving.' The increased preference for hotel vacations, which allow for healing rather than the challenging nature of backpacking, is a representative example."
Regarding the conditions necessary to realize their bucket lists during university life, "financial freedom (86.6%)" and "time availability (82.4%)" were the highest. Since travel was the number one bucket list item, financial resources and time, essential for travel, were selected as the most necessary conditions.
When asked about the sufficiency of these two conditions among university students and graduates, students reported relatively lacking financial resources compared to time, while graduates, having secured financial resources through work, reported relatively less time availability.
