Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Draws Attention with Customized Self-Diagnostic Kit Usage for Disabled
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 22nd that it has produced and distributed customized COVID-19 self-diagnosis kit usage videos for people with disabilities in accordance with the transition to the Omicron quarantine system.
Amid changes in diagnostic testing and quarantine guidelines due to the spread of COVID-19, Gwangsan-gu promoted the production of promotional videos to guarantee the right to know and health rights of people with disabilities regarding these changes.
In particular, people with disabilities have experienced difficulties using the self-diagnosis kits introduced for rapid antigen testing.
Accordingly, Gwangsan-gu created and promoted videos on how to use COVID-19 self-diagnosis kits tailored to different types of disabilities.
The videos were produced in the ‘Media Room’ installed at the Gwangsan-gu Disabled Welfare Center, with participation from people with disabilities themselves and sign language interpreters, resulting in three versions covering developmental disabilities, hearing impairments, and visual impairments.
For people with developmental disabilities, the usage instructions were explained in easy-to-understand terms, and the video for hearing-impaired individuals introduced the detailed process through sign language interpretation.
For visually impaired individuals, the videos focused on enhancing understanding by specifically describing the appearance, usage process, and tactile sensations of the diagnostic kit items.
The videos are available on the Gwangsan-gu Disabled Welfare Center’s website, the ‘YouTube’ channel, and social networking services (Facebook), allowing people with disabilities to access them anytime as needed.
In particular, to enable people with disabilities to use the videos during rapid antigen testing, Gwangsan-gu is actively guiding through official promotional channels and disability-related institutions and organizations. They also plan to strengthen promotion in cooperation with other autonomous districts in Gwangju and government agencies.
