Taekwang Group Ilju Foundation "Donates 1.1 Billion Won for Disability Family Education Over 5 Years"

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Taekwang Group's Ilju Academic and Cultural Foundation announced on the 22nd that it has donated 1.14 billion KRW over five years to support the education expenses of families with disabled members.
Ilju Foundation held the '2022 Education Support Fund Delivery Ceremony for Families with Disabilities' event yesterday at the 4th-floor conference room of the Purme Foundation in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by Heo Seungjo, Chairman of Ilju Foundation, and Kang Jiwon, Chairman of Purme Foundation, among others.
Ilju Foundation is a scholarship foundation with assets totaling 75.3 billion KRW, established on July 19, 1990, by Ilju Lee Imyong, the founder of Taekwang Group, who donated his personal assets. It mainly conducts public interest projects such as providing scholarships, research funds, and supporting educational institutions. Purme Foundation, established in 2005, is a non-profit foundation engaged in disability allocation, medical projects, self-reliance support, and publishing.
The two foundations support education expenses for families with disabled members. They select a total of 50 recipients, including 15 children under 18 years old with disabled parents and 35 middle and high school students who have disabled siblings, providing up to 2 million KRW per person annually for academic support and arts and physical education expenses. Since 2018, Ilju Foundation has donated 1.04 billion KRW to Purme Foundation to support the education expenses of about 480 family members with disabled parents or siblings. This year, they plan to support 100 million KRW. According to Ilju Foundation, some students who received support have succeeded in entering their desired universities.

Chairman Heo said, "Through the education support program, I hope young dreamers will not be discouraged and grow into healthy and bright adults," adding, "We will do our best to faithfully fulfill our role as a public interest foundation that discovers and supports various welfare blind spots."
