Gwangju City Election Commission Files Complaint Against Resident Who Removed Presidential Candidate Banners
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Election Commission announced on the 21st that it has reported Mr. A to the prosecution on charges of removing a presidential election campaign banner without justifiable reason during the 20th presidential election.
Mr. A is accused of unauthorized removal and burning of one campaign banner of a 20th presidential election candidate posted in front of his workplace located in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, at around 9:40 a.m. on the 15th.
The Public Official Election Act stipulates that anyone who obstructs or removes banners posted or installed under this law without justifiable reason shall be punished by imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 4 million won.

A Gwangju Election Commission official stated, “The act of removing or damaging election campaign facilities is an election crime that interferes with the freedom of election campaigning and undermines fair election order. If detected, strict measures will be taken according to relevant regulations.”
