[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Jeong Un-hyeon, former Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister and close aide to Lee Nak-yeon, the General Election Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, declared his support for Yoon Seok-youl, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, saying, "I have decided to choose a 'plant president' rather than an unpredictable 'monster president'."
On the 21st, Jeong posted on his Facebook under the title "I support Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party candidate," expressing this view.
Jeong said, "During last year's Democratic Party primary, I worked in Lee Nak-yeon's campaign. I helped Lee Nak-yeon unconditionally for nearly two years after he retired from the Prime Minister's Office, where I served as his Chief Secretary during his tenure as Prime Minister. In the April 15, 2020 general election, I worked from the sidelines, and during last year's Democratic Party primary, I served as the head of the public relations team for Lee Nak-yeon's campaign, overseeing media relations. This was my way of fulfilling my personal sense of duty," he began.
Jeong further revealed that after recently meeting candidate Yoon through an introduction by an acquaintance familiar with both sides, he decided to support him. He said, "I met Yoon through an acquaintance who knows both sides well, and although I was taken aback when Yoon asked for my help, I ultimately accepted. Supporting Yoon means choosing the lesser evil."
Regarding his support for Yoon, Jeong explained, "A candidate who flips on his words like turning over a palm, a candidate with less morality than an ordinary person, a candidate who knows no shame?no matter how many good pledges he makes, those promises cannot be trusted. An unripe apple can be ripened and eaten, but a rotten apple cannot be eaten. As someone said, I have decided to choose a 'plant president' rather than an unpredictable 'monster president.'"
He also criticized the progressive camp's prominent figures who combine morality and reformism but support Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate symbolized by "four-time offender-criminal-fraud-Daejang-dong-lies," which he said is a fatal flaw as a leader. He added, "If they insist that 'supporting Lee Jae-myung is good and supporting Yoon Seok-youl is evil,' this is nothing but a vulgar factional logic that deserves criticism."

Furthermore, Jeong acknowledged, "Many people will be bewildered by my decision, and some may criticize me. However, what is clear is that just as they have the right to support Lee Jae-myung, I have the right to support Yoon Seok-youl. It is not right to criticize others' choices just because one cannot accept them. I did not criticize their choices either. They made their choice, and I made mine."
