President Moon: "We should also consider discussions on opening other levees as a measure for the Nakdong River"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in has instructed to also consider discussions on opening other river systems such as the Geum River, following the permanent opening of the Nakdong River Estuary Bank.
Park Soo-hyun, the Blue House Chief of Public Communication, revealed on Facebook on the 20th in a post titled 'Stories about the President Not in the Briefing' that President Moon gave this instruction during a staff meeting on the 18th.
President Moon said, "Please ensure thorough improvements to the intake facilities so that agricultural water intake activities in the lower Nakdong River Estuary area are not adversely affected by the permanent opening," and added, "Please carefully examine and prepare for issues related to the future opening discussions of banks in other river systems such as the Geum River."

Chief Park stated that since the 2012 general election, President Moon, along with the then Democratic United Party's Busan and Yangsan general election candidates, pledged ecological restoration through the opening of the Nakdong River Estuary Bank under the slogan 'Nakdong River Must Flow,' and during the presidential election the same year, he promised to implement ecological restoration of the Nakdong River estuary along with the restoration of the Four Major Rivers.
