Naver Officially Launches ‘Premium Content’... Expanding Paid Creators Base
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Naver announced on the 18th that it is officially launching its paid content platform, ‘Premium Contents,’ and expanding it into an open platform where anyone can generate revenue as long as they have competitive content.
‘Premium Contents’ is a paid content platform where creators can easily sell content on Naver, and users can easily subscribe. It was launched in beta last May. Based on Naver’s technology, it provides a series of functions necessary for creators to sell content, including content publishing, sales, data analysis, and settlement.
The biggest change with this official service launch is that anyone can join ‘Premium Contents’ as a creator and publish and sell content. Creators who meet certain conditions can open up to two channels. Currently, more than 200 channels have been opened on ‘Premium Contents.’
Naver stated, “During the beta period, only some content providers (CPs) partnered with Naver could participate, but with the transition to an open platform, we expect increased participation from creators and richer content for users to enjoy.”
Subscription management and communication functions have also been enhanced to better connect creators and subscribers. The targets and types of coupons have become more diverse, and issuing coupons in the form of ‘redeem codes’ is now possible, allowing creators to use them to acquire new subscribers or provide benefits to existing ones. Additionally, a function has been added to send various messages and communicate with subscribers through the linked Naver TalkTalk channel for subscribers who have agreed to receive notifications.
Naver believes that through ‘Premium Contents,’ professional creators can have their content’s value recognized and diversify their revenue based on a paid subscriber base. During the nine-month beta period, the transaction amount through ‘Premium Contents’ reached 480 million KRW. More than 20 channels achieved monthly earnings exceeding 1 million KRW.
Among them, some channels even achieved monthly earnings of over 10 million KRW. By topic, channels related to investment and financial technology trends secured many paid subscribers. In addition, channels on various topics such as novels, issues and trends, employment, and English learning gathered loyal subscribers interested in those subjects.
To celebrate the official launch of ‘Premium Contents,’ Naver is offering a coupon that allows all users to subscribe to one Premium Contents channel for free until March 10. Even if users are already subscribed to channels, discounts will be automatically applied on the next payment date. An event is also planned to award Naver Pay points through a lottery based on the number of subscribed channels. 500 users subscribed to at least one channel will receive 5,000 KRW in Pay points, and 200 users subscribed to three or more channels will receive 10,000 KRW.
