[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The '2022 Genesis Invitational,' a PGA Tour tournament sponsored by the Genesis brand as the title sponsor, opened on the 17th (local time) at the Riviera Country Club in California, USA, and will be held until the 20th.
After a year, the tournament is once again being held with spectators, prepared in accordance with the California state government and PGA Tour quarantine guidelines. Last year's tournament was held without spectators due to the COVID-19 situation.
The 2022 Genesis Invitational features a large number of world-class players. Including world No. 1 Jon Rahm, No. 2 Collin Morikawa, and No. 5 Rory McIlroy, a total of 120 top-ranked golf players will compete.
Korean players include Lee Jae-kyung, the winner of the 2021 Genesis Championship on the Korean Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Korean Tour, who is participating as a Genesis invitee and challenging the PGA Tour, along with players active on the PGA Tour such as Im Sung-jae, Kim Si-woo, and Lee Kyung-hoon.
The performance of Korean-descended players such as Minwoo Lee, the defending champion of the 'Genesis Scottish Open,' as well as Sangwook Na and Jinmyeong Lee, is also highly anticipated.
This tournament has a total prize money of 12 million dollars, with the winner's prize approximately 2.16 million dollars, which is larger than the 2021 tournament. In addition to the prize money, the tournament winner will receive a Genesis GV80 as a trophy.
Additionally, at the 14th hole, the first player to record a hole-in-one each day and their caddie will each be awarded a GV80 and GV70 respectively as prizes, and all players who record a hole-in-one at the 16th hole during the tournament will receive a GV70.
