Vice Minister Choi Jong-moon "Efforts to Increase Vaccine Coverage in Developing Countries"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Choi Jong-moon, the 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated at the 'COVID-19 Global Action Foreign Ministers' Meeting' that "we will strive to increase the vaccination rates in Asian developing countries."
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 15th, the COVID-19 Global Action Foreign Ministers' Meeting hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken the previous day was attended by 16 countries including Korea, the European Union (EU), the African Union (AU), and the World Health Organization (WHO). The meeting was held virtually due to COVID-19.
The attendees discussed concrete action plans to achieve the goal of vaccinating 70% of the global population by mid-year.
The United States urged active actions from major countries through the launch of the Global Action Plan for pandemic response.
The attendees also agreed to strengthen roles to expand vaccine support to developing countries and improve the efficiency of such support.
Vice Minister Choi said, "In the case of developing countries, it must be considered that they face difficulties in vaccination due to insufficient healthcare infrastructure," adding, "It is important to provide package support that includes not only vaccines but also cold chain systems and essential medical supplies necessary for actual vaccination."

He further emphasized, "We will closely cooperate with the WHO to provide comprehensive education and training covering production, management, and vaccination of vaccines and other biopharmaceuticals to experts in developing countries."
