Yoon Seok-yeol, Silent on Additional Unification Statement: "No More to Say"
"Those Aspiring to Be National Leaders Should Not Engage in Actions Unwanted by the People"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, refrained from making additional statements on the unification with Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, on the 14th.
After attending the People Power Party’s parliamentary meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Yoon responded to questions from reporters about the unification by saying, "I already spoke about the opposition unity for regime change yesterday," and added, "I don’t have much more to say."
The previous day, Yoon had expressed a positive evaluation of Ahn’s unification proposal, saying, "I positively evaluate the proposal made in the spirit of regime change," but also stated, "I heard about the opinion polls and will consider them, but there are some regrets." At that time, when asked about the specifics of those regrets, Yoon only said, "I will not provide detailed answers."
Earlier, Lee Tae-gyu, the general election campaign director of the People’s Party, told reporters, "(Regarding unification) Isn’t it enough to decide within 2 to 3 days whether to proceed or not, no matter how long it takes?" He added, "It’s not a new method but the People Power Party’s own method, so if they cannot make a decision within 2 to 3 days about their own method, shouldn’t it be seen as a lack of intention?"
Additionally, regarding the incident the previous day when Yoon placed his leg on the opposite seat with his shoe during the weekend passion train event, he said, "I believe that someone who wants to become a national leader or the highest decision-maker concerning the lives of the people should not engage in behavior that the public does not want," and added, "I will be more careful about such matters."

At the parliamentary meeting that day, Yoon stated, "This presidential election is a contest to set the Republic of Korea straight based on the values of justice, fairness, and liberal democracy, and to create a Korea of harmony and unity," and emphasized, "Above all, it is an election to judge the corrupt and incompetent Democratic Party administration."
