"Why Won't You Listen?" 50s Childcare Teacher of 1-Year-Old Abused Child Receives Probation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Two childcare teachers who habitually abused five children were sentenced to suspended prison terms.
Judge Yoon Bong-hak of the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 6 sentenced Kang Mo (53), who was indicted for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes, to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 3-year suspension. Moon Mo (53) was sentenced to 1 year in prison with a 2-year suspension.
Additionally, the defendants were ordered to complete an 80-hour child abuse treatment program and were banned from employment at child-related institutions for 3 years.
Kang was tried on charges of abusing four victim children a total of 25 times from January 19 to February 23 of last year.
In particular, he was accused of roughly placing a one-year-old child who refused to take off clothes on the floor in the daycare classroom, pulling the child's clothes causing the head to hit the floor, resulting in injury.
Moon also emotionally abused three victim children 14 times during the same period.
The court stated, "It is not a minor offense that those obligated to report child abuse crimes instead inflicted physical or emotional abuse on children."

However, the court added, "The defendants admitted to the crimes and showed remorse, and except for one victim child, they reached settlements and received forgiveness from the other victim children and their parents," and "considered various sentencing factors such as the defendants' age, family relationships, and circumstances after the crime comprehensively."
