View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province will invest a total budget of 300 billion KRW this year to achieve carbon neutrality and improve productivity in the livestock sector.
On the 14th, the province stated, "The importance of self-sufficiency in the livestock sector is significant from the perspective of food security, and we plan to respond to domestic and international environmental changes such as the complete abolition of tariffs in the livestock sector due to FTAs and the realization of carbon neutrality."
The province plans to implement three main strategies: stabilizing the livestock industry base and developing new growth engines (production), advanced welfare livestock like developed countries (welfare), and citizen-friendly livestock (coexistence).
To this end, a budget of 300 billion KRW has been allocated this year focusing on ▲ improving productivity and establishing smart livestock farming ▲ creating eco-friendly livestock farming ▲ managing safe feed resources ▲ fostering new growth livestock farming ▲ and building a safe livestock industry system.
First, 92 billion KRW will be invested in 13 projects including the expansion of livestock ICT convergence and strengthening competitiveness by livestock type (dairy, swine, poultry, etc.). In particular, from this year, a separate autonomous budget for cities and counties has been allocated for projects to strengthen competitiveness by livestock type.
For creating an eco-friendly livestock environment, which has been promoted since March last year, 45 billion KRW will be invested in 13 projects such as 'sealed manure treatment facilities' and 'multi-purpose manure treatment equipment support' preferred by farms, focusing on improving animal welfare.
A budget of 12 billion KRW has also been allocated for eight projects including support for forage production, production of forage from idle land, feed resource utilization, and quality and safety management of feed manufacturing facilities.
For 15 projects including horse and beekeeping industry development, support for riding horse production and distribution, genomic analysis of Korean cattle and dairy cows, and development of new dairy cow breeds, 10 billion KRW will be invested to proactively respond to the future livestock environment.
Additionally, to prepare for various disasters such as heatwaves and heavy snow, 24 billion KRW will be invested in six projects including support for livestock disaster insurance enrollment and emergency support for livestock disasters, aiming to build a safe livestock industry system.
