DS Unveils 'E-Tense Performance Concept,' a Concentration of Electrification Technology
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] DS Automobiles (hereinafter DS) announced on the 10th that it unveiled the ‘E-Tense Performance’ concept car, a culmination of cutting-edge electrification technology.
Since the brand's launch in 2014, DS has made electrification its core strategy. The DS E-Tense Performance concept car reflects DS's vision and indicates the design, chassis, and battery technology direction for future electrified models to be mass-produced by DS.
The exterior of the DS E-Tense Performance was completed by the ‘DS Design Studio Paris.’ It features a front design highlighted by daytime running lights composed of 800 light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and a DS logo with a 3D effect. The color scheme, which is not limited to a specific color and creates an optical illusion of changing colors depending on external conditions and viewing angles, presents the futuristic image of automobiles envisioned by DS.
The powertrain incorporates all the know-how of the Formula E championship team. It is based on a carbon monocoque body that has proven lightweight and design flexibility through DS racing cars. A 600 kW electric motor (250 kW front, 350 kW rear) delivers up to 815 horsepower and a maximum torque of 8000 Nm.
The battery, inspired by Formula E racing cars, was developed jointly with Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies. This battery, featuring an innovative immersive cooling system, supports acceleration and regenerative braking up to 600 kW.
Thomas Chevaucher, DS Performance Director, said, “DS’s goal is to apply the experience gained from Formula E and the expertise acquired through titles won in international competitions to the development of future high-performance electric vehicles,” adding, “This approach will reduce costs and be the path to finding innovative electrification solutions suitable for mass-produced models.”

Meanwhile, since introducing its first pure electric vehicle in 2019, DS has solidified its position as a leader in electrification by becoming the brand with the lowest carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in Europe in 2020. From 2024, DS plans to launch all its lineups as pure electric vehicles, making Formula E technology development the core of its electrification projects.
