On the 9th, at the Beijing Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing, China, Lee Jun-seo finished first in the second heat of the men's 1500m quarterfinals at the Beijing Olympics short track with a time of 2 minutes 18.630 seconds. With this, he secured a direct ticket to the semifinals awarded to the top three athletes in each heat.
Lee started the race in 5th place among six athletes but moved to the outside lane with 8 laps remaining and swiftly took the lead.
