Nam In-soon and Kim Young-soon File Objection to Complainant in 'Park Won-soon Allegation Leak Defamation' Case
Disagreeing with Police No-Charge Conclusion
"I Want to See the Prosecutor's Judgment"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] The prosecution is set to reexamine allegations that Nam In-soon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Kim Young-soon, former executive director of the Korean Women's Associations United, damaged the reputation of the victim by leaking the fact that the late Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon was accused of sexual harassment.
According to investigative authorities on the 9th, the complainant in this case, the Judicial Examination Preparation Group (Sajunmo), filed an objection the day before in response to the police's decision of no charges. The group stated, "Although the investigation team in charge conducted the investigation for nearly a year, since there is no evidence other than what the complainant submitted, we have submitted an objection to have the prosecution review the decision once again." Under the Criminal Procedure Act, when a complainant objects to the police's decision not to prosecute, the case is forwarded to the prosecution. Accordingly, the case involving Representative Nam and others is expected to be transferred soon to the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office, which has jurisdiction.
In January last year, Sajunmo filed a complaint with the prosecution through the National Petition System, claiming that Representative Nam and former Director Kim leaked the fact that Mayor Park was accused, thereby damaging the reputation of the sexual harassment victim. Subsequently, the case was transferred through the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office, Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office, and Yeongdeungpo Police Station before arriving at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

The investigation was conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and was closed last month with no charges. The police explained the reason for non-prosecution, stating, "While it is acknowledged that there were phone calls between the parties involved or with the Seoul City Gender Advisor, it is difficult to recognize that the victim was identified or that there was intent to defame." Earlier, it was confirmed through the prosecution's investigation that Representative Nam had called Im Soon-young, then Seoul City Gender Advisor, to inquire whether there were any unpleasant incidents related to the late Mayor Park.
