Iran Nuclear Deal Restoration Talks to Resume on 8th in Vienna, Austria
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Negotiations to restore the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA - Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) will resume on the 8th in Vienna, Austria.
The European Union (EU) External Action Service (EEAS), which oversees the EU's foreign policy, announced this on the 7th (local time). According to the EEAS, representatives from the countries participating in the nuclear deal restoration talks will consult with their home governments and discuss the possibility of the United States returning to the Iran nuclear deal and how to ensure the full and effective implementation of the agreement.
In 2015, Iran signed the nuclear deal with six countries?the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, China, and Germany?agreeing to freeze or reduce its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Nations, and the European Union (EU).
However, former U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018 and reinstated sanctions against Iran. In response, Iran restricted inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and increased uranium enrichment levels.
Following the inauguration of the Joe Biden administration, which seeks to restore the nuclear deal, Iran and the involved parties have been negotiating since April of last year.
The delegations participating in the negotiations temporarily paused talks at the end of last month to consult with their home countries.
