At Renault Samsung Motors, he is the second Korean to serve as the head of the research institute, following former head Kwon Sang-soon. The company expects him to lead the development of innovative technologies centered on customer experience by combining his expertise in technology and system development with market quality know-how. Since the eco-friendly new car based on Volvo's CMA platform, which is under development with a target release in Korea in 2024, emphasizes intelligent technology as its strength, he is regarded as the right person to lead this new car development. Renault Samsung's Central Research Institute is a comprehensive R&D center encompassing vehicle R&D, design, project management, purchasing, and quality, and serves as Renault Group's R&D hub in the Asia region.
