Damyang-gun Selected for Final Phase of 'Agricultural Worker Dormitory Construction Project'
Secured 1.5 Billion KRW in Project Funds... Construction Scheduled by 2023
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 4th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it has been finally selected for the 'Agricultural Worker Dormitory Construction Support' project hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to ensure stable employment of rural labor.
This project is being promoted to improve the living environment of foreign workers through the construction of a new dormitory and to solve the shortage of farm labor through stable and systematic management of workers.
The agricultural worker dormitory construction project will be built over two years from 2022 to 2023 with a project cost of 1.5 billion KRW (50% national funds, 50% local funds), as a three-story building accommodating about 50 people in the Wauri area of Bongsan-myeon.
Wauri, Bongsan-myeon, the planned site for the dormitory, is a collective cultivation area of Wa-u strawberries, which maintains the nation's top reputation. In December last year, a survey on the intention to move into the dormitory was conducted targeting facility horticulture farms, completing the collection of residents' opinions.
The dormitory is planned to be constructed in a studio apartment style, with community spaces arranged to not only ensure the stable settlement of foreign workers but also serve as a communication place between local residents and foreign workers.
So far, Damyang-gun has been operating the Agricultural Industry Workforce Support Center to resolve the shortage of agricultural labor, linking about 5,000 labor cases annually, and has been proactively promoting support for foreign workers' insurance premiums and residential environment improvement projects.
