'Gompyo' Daehan Flour Mills Honorary Chairman Lee Jong-gak Passes Away at Age 90
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] Lee Jong-gak, Honorary Chairman of Daehan Flour Milling Co., famous for 'Gompyo' flour, passed away on the 3rd at the age of 90.
He was born in 1932 in Pyongyang, graduated from Seoul High School and Seoul National University with a degree in Economics, and joined Daehan Flour Milling Co. in 1957.
Daehan Flour Milling Co., founded in 1952 by the late former chairman Lee Han-won, is considered one of the top three flour milling companies in Korea alongside CJ CheilJedang and Dongawon.
After the death of former chairman Lee Han-won in 1978, Lee Jong-gak, who was then vice president, took over as CEO in 1982 and led the management. He stepped down from the CEO position in 2009, retiring from frontline management, and his eldest son Lee Geon-young, then vice president, succeeded him.
Recently, Daehan Flour Milling Co. gained popularity by launching 'Gompyo Beer' and 'Gompyo Popcorn' with a newtro (new retro) concept targeting the MZ generation.

The funeral is being held at Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Hall Room 1. The funeral procession will take place on the 5th at 8:30 a.m., and the burial site is Anseong Catholic Cemetery.
