How about playing Yutnori at I-Mom Gangdongseo instead of staying home during Seol holiday?
Popular Demand for 8 Branches of I-Mom Gangdong, a Leading Childcare Infrastructure Facility in Gangdong... Intense Reservation Competition... Pre-Registered Visitors Can Enjoy Various Traditional Folk Games and Play Coaching with Their Children
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] If you find yourself stuck at home again this holiday, take a closer look. There is ‘I-Mom Gangdong,’ where you can safely and enjoyably experience traditional games with your children.
Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) has prepared a folk game program to enjoy at the ‘I-Mom Gangdong’ open playground in celebration of the first holiday of the Year of the Black Tiger.
Starting from the 24th and running until February 28th, this event features a variety of games such as large Yutnori, Four Corners, Tuho, and Jegichagi, which evoke childhood memories for parents and introduce children to the fun of traditional Korean games. Visitors can freely participate and receive game coaching.
‘I-Mom Gangdong’ is part of Gangdong-gu’s ambitious social welfare project to create a child-friendly environment. Currently, eight branches are in operation, and due to high popularity, reservations are highly competitive.
Branches have been evenly established by region, starting with I-Mom Gangdong Seongnae Branch (No. 1) in May 2019, followed by Cheonho Branch (No. 2), Gangil Branch (No. 3), Cheonho Park Branch (No. 4), Amsa Branch (No. 5), Gildong Branch (No. 6), and Godeok Branch (No. 7). In November, Amsa Market Branch (No. 8) also opened and is currently operating.
Each branch is designed with different themes such as aquariums and jungles to stimulate children’s imagination and sensitivity. They are also divided into sections including ▲Toy Library lending toys and childcare products ▲Open playgrounds where parents and children can freely play ▲I-Jaramteo, a space for integrated play programs for infants and toddlers, with differentiated operations by branch.
Currently, open playgrounds operate at six branches (Seongnae, Gangil, Cheonho Park, Godeok, Gildong, and Amsa Market). Due to COVID-19 social distancing measures, the number of users is limited, and reservations must be made in advance through the Gangdong Children’s Center website the month before use.
Even if you miss making a reservation, you can use the ‘Toy Library on Wheels,’ which delivers toys to your home. Additionally, for parents who prepare birthday tables at home, rental services for Baekilsang (100-day celebration table) and Dolsang (first birthday table) are also offered, receiving great responses.
While the focus was on establishment until last year, this year aims to enhance quality through program development and expanded operation for children. Various projects will be actively carried out, including ▲Play programs at I-Jaramteo ▲Differentiated themed programs by branch ▲Providing spaces for parent self-help groups to share childcare information and communicate ▲Parent meetings to discover user-centered services for I-Mom Gangdong ▲Replacing old toys based on user preferences.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "Through strengthening the operation of ‘I-Mom Gangdong,’ a representative childcare infrastructure facility in Gangdong, we will improve user satisfaction and systematically promote childbirth, parenting, and family-friendly policies to establish Gangdong-gu as a happy place for infants, toddlers, and families."
