[2022 Green Mobility Awards] Mobility Technology Award 'Korea GM'
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Korea GM is preparing for the upcoming "Net Zero (carbon neutrality)" era based on General Motors (GM)'s dedicated electric vehicle platform "Ultium" and the evolved software platform "Ultifi."
Ultium, an electric vehicle-exclusive platform, is GM's core technology for the era's challenge of "carbon neutrality." It is the third-generation global electric vehicle platform powered by a modular vehicle drive system and GM's self-developed Ultium battery.
The strength of Ultium lies in its excellent versatility, applicable to various vehicle types ranging from standard electric vehicle models to premium electric vehicles, commercial truck electric vehicles, and high-performance electric vehicles. GM plans to actively apply Ultium to its upcoming electric vehicle portfolio, including GMC's Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq. The company aims to realize GM's vision for future carbon neutrality.
The software platform Ultifi, developed based on customer experience, is also expected to play a key role in GM's future vehicle strategy. Ultifi is a cloud-based service that allows users to easily access and configure in-vehicle software via over-the-air (OTA) updates through smartphone applications or various device app integrations, as well as upgrade the vehicle's driving functions.
Along with this, GM's Korean operations, including Korea GM, are accelerating the transition to green mobility for carbon neutrality. Korea GM plans to contribute to the popularization of electric vehicles domestically by launching 10 electric vehicle models in Korea by 2025.

The GM Technical Center Korea (GMTCK), composed of approximately 3,300 engineers, designers, and technicians, is also expected to play a key role in GM's carbon neutrality strategy. Currently, about 500 engineers at GMTCK are involved in numerous global electric vehicle development programs aligned with GM's electrification vision. The plan is to double the related workforce by next year compared to the current level.
